Happy Birthday Ryan

What a great evening I had photographed a dance rehearsal and then spent the evening with my dear group of friends. So here is a personal picture of me with my group of friends celebrating Ryan’s birthday.

Mark Your Calendars: My Photography Exhibit

Until recently, my photography has focused on creating clear and straightforward portraiture, but I want to go deeper. I want to create images that encourage the viewer to spend time discovering what the images are really about (what the subject matter really is). I want to focus on the mystery created by the motion of dance that often our human eye misses but the camera captures, while maintaining elements of the human form with the goal of pulling the viewer into the movement.

Portraits of Mystery is inspired by the artists and dancers of Dance Truck.

Greetings from sunny souther California where I am spending a few days photographing Matthew and Sherrene, who are just stunning! Yesterday, we did a portrait session together at Balboa Park in their amazing Indian wedding attire! Untitled – Berlin Germany -

Images created at the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in Berlin, Germany in April 2011.(If I got the name of this memorial wrong, I am very sorry.) It was a memorial unlike I have ever seen or experienced. I wish I had a way with words but as you know I am not a writer.

The ground changed from level to hills and everything in between, the pillars around as you moved through the memorial changes sizes and if you thought about it long enough, felt oppressive, stuck in a maze (which the memorial is a maze of sorts) and it intrigued me. To help me process my experience at the memorial I, of course, photographed it.

When I created these images, I was not sure what I would end up with nor was I sure what I would ever use them for. I have not looked at my Berlin images in months, but tonight I was going through a few images and these captivated me and I had to share.

Special thanks goes out to Rachel for being my subject in these images!
