Due to bus and subway schedules our session was delayed and therefore we lost a lot of available light in Central Park. However, we did not let that ruin their evening portrait session. I have known Ruthie for either four or five years now through the organization I work with while I am here in New York City. She is a delight, has great care and concern for the students we work with and such a sweet spirit! We had a blast taking pictures tonight (minus dodging the rats in the park) and ending the evening with Pizza at my favorite New York Pizza place – Mama’s on W106 and Amsterdam!

Greetings from New York City where I have been for the past week and will be until Tuesday working with my full time ministry/job with Mission to the World. This week I have had the pleasure of serving with two college teams who came to serve with Operation Exodus Inner City Inc with their after school program. Welcome to my new blog! I’m excited about my new blog layout and design, and I hope you will be, too. I love the fact that I can now display larger images than on my previous blog. The picture below is of Anslee & Chris, whom I had the chance to photograph in Long Island City, NYC this summer, more images of their session coming soon.

I have been out of the blogging world for a few months, but they were a fun few months! It was an exciting time, full of travel, weddings, vacation, and various photo shoots mixed in between all of the above. Right now, I am preparing for a trip to Rome, GA this weekend to visit my dear friends Jana, Kane and Mara Kate and also for a family portrait session at Berry College. I am very excited about visiting with them but also to return to Berry to photograph such a beautiful family in a location I love to photograph!

On October 24, I will be photographing Caroline & Dave’s wedding in Macon, GA at the fabulous Hay House. I am looking forward to this wedding not only for the beautiful location, but also because Caroline was one of the first friends I made when I moved to Atlanta five years ago. It is an honor to not only be her photographer, but also her friend.

I am SUPER SUPER excited about their wedding location, The Hay House Two weeks ago, I drove to Macon to scout it out. Here is a shot of the lovely dining room. Amazing!

Photography is a gift the Lord has given me to bless others. I love capturing life as it unfolds before my lens and creating memories that those I serve can enjoy for generations to come. Photography also teaches me to stop and see the beauty that exists all around me, to stand in awe of God both for who he is and for the beautiful world he has created.

Moments after we landed, I turned on my phone to find a voicemail from my friend Carmen, who actually lives in Miami, but was also visiting NYC. She had seen my status and wanted me to do a portrait session for her family that day, as they would be flying back to Miami the next day. Carmen and I had talked before about her desire for me to photograph her family, but we were never in the same city at the same time. Here was our chance!

Later that day, after my work meetings were over, we all met up at Bethesda Terrace, which is my favorite place in Central Park for portrait sessions (thanks Carter for the recommendation). We had a delightful time catching up, as it had been over three years since we had seen each other in person. But I had even more fun photographing Carmen’s beautiful family!

The video below is the portraits from their session. As an extra special touch, the song that I chose for this video is called Sugar, Honey, Baby. It is written and performed by Carmen herself. Carmen has a beautiful voice and has performed here in the States as well as in South America and Europe. Enjoy the pictures AND the music! Carmen and Jose, I hope the music with the portraits makes them even more special to you.

One of the things I love about walking through the streets of New York is hearing great music from various street performers. I’m captivated, not only by their music, but by wondering about who they are. What is the story behind the pieces of music they are playing? What brought them to the city? The list could go on.

This photo is a man who was performing at Bethesda Terrace, just under the staircase. Maybe someday I will have the guts to ask a street performer for his story so I can share it along with his picture, but until that day, here is a portrait of a man I will name Sam.

I am in the process of learning about applying textures to photographs, and this portrait has a texture applied to it. Feedback is welcomed.
