She said “YES!” – Jeff & Mary Elizabeth Engaged – Atlanta Marriage Proposals

Jeff & Mary Elizabeth have a passion for living and serving over seas. Mary Elizabeth has spent the past year living in Asia and arrived back in the USA just a few days ago.

Even though they lived on other sides of the world, they would still have regular dates, Jeff tells me Mary Elizabeth’s favorites were when they would plan walks “together” each in their own part of the world connected by phone. This walk however, would be extra special!

They both counted down the dates Mary Elizabeth would return to the USA. However, Jeff had “go to Michigan” for a work or so he told Mary Elizabeth. Little did she know, Jeff had been planning this day for four months, everyone in the world knew of his plans…but her. Jeff was actually in Atlanta the entire time.

Jeff had orchestrated his master plan with the help of many people. He had her debrief meeting set at a certain time, his mother came in from NYC, her mother and sister arrived from out of state, the ring was purchased, a friend to guard the gift table until she came, a photographer (aka me) hired to hide out in a bush to document the evening , a video was made and a phone date arranged. The plan was for the to go on a walk and talk on the phone along the way.

Jeff arrived at the little park where he planned to propose early to set up the table…had to make some quick adjustments to the plan as the weather started turning, but he kept calm…ok well he started pacing back and forth on the banks of the ponds, but really did a good job at keeping his cool.

Mary Elizabeth was so tired, after all she did just fly half way around the world only a few days ago, the weather started turning complete with thunder and lightening all around! Meanwhile, he continued talking with her while pacing back and forth on the banks of the pond nervous….he began to think she was not going to come but somehow he talked her into going on the walk.

To watch most of the event unfold, I created an animoto video, which is below. Animoto is an appropriate way for me to share their engagement story with you as Jeff made an animoto video that Mary Elizabeth watched as her third gift on her “walk”. At the end of the video, it said “turn around”, which you will see her turn complete with her surprised and tearful reaction when she discovered, Jeff was behind her. They met on the dock out of site of my video camera, but the stills helped fill in the gaps of the video.

Clinton, OK Portrait Session

This month I had the wonderful opportunity to fly to Oklahoma to photography one of my dearest friends Jacy’s daughter (see sweet Rachel below and more coming) and also got to do two anytime sessions (Anytime meaning it is not an engagement shoot). My frist night in Oklahoma we drove from a one small town to Clinton, OK where my friend Jacy was performing in a play/musical. As soon as we entered Clinton and saw the old train cars, I knew that had to be the location of the couple portrait sessions. There is something about old cards, trains and pealing pant that I just love as backdrops! Enjoy this small sampling of images from such a fun portrait session!

Adam and Destiny Engaged

Last fall, I participated in a craft fair at ChristChurch Atlanta where I had a booth selling my photography greeting card, but also gave away two portrait sessions through a drawing for those who visited my booth. I remember Destiny and her mom stopping by my booth and both dropping her their names into the bowl and saying if either of us win, Destiny gets it for an engagement session. Low and behold Destiny’s name was selected! It was such fun calling to tell her that she won the free portrait session for I always love winning something and I believe Destiny did as well.

Adam and Destiny went to Columbus State University. They belonged to a group of mutual friends in Columbus and were friends for a year before beginning to date. During their time as friends, Destiny remembers the day her Mom met Adam for the first time and raved about what a polite, handsome young man her friend Adam was! The rest is history. Adam and Destiny have been together ever since, both transferring after two years from CSU to UGA and moving back to the Atlanta area for jobs after college. They will be married in September!

Engagement session was done at the amazing Cator Woolford Gardens in Decatur. Cator Woolford Gardens is an amazing place hidden away of Ponce de Leon Ave, a perfect venue for engagement pictures or to have a wedding, so if your looking for an outdoor wedding venue, I recommend Cator Woolford Gardens.

Chris and Cecilia Engaged!

It all started when he walked across campus determined to study hard and stay focused on his pre med studies, when he caught her eye. She had a school girl crush on him from a far, pretty much since the first time she saw him, the crush continued and his present left her often speechless….so she would gaze from afar…

Until a few years later, when the moved to the Emory Atlanta Campus, then over the next few years Cecilia caught his eye and their relationship grew. And on May 30, 2010 Cecelia’s once school girl crush will become her husband!

Here is a small preview of their engagement portrait session at Oxford/Emory College in Oxford, GA.

I have been going back through my photographs from years past and rediscovered this engagement session from 2007 with Keith & Beth. I loved their engagement session and it is so fun for me to go back from time to time to see how I have grown and changed as a photographer over the past few years. Keith & Beth, it was such a delight to photograph not only your engagement but your wedding! Enjoy a trip down memory lane!

Hello! Welcome to my new blog! I’m excited about my new blog layout and design, and I hope you will be, too. I love the fact that I can now display larger images than on my previous blog. The picture below is of Anslee & Chris, whom I had the chance to photograph in Long Island City, NYC this summer, more images of their session coming soon.

I have been out of the blogging world for a few months, but they were a fun few months! It was an exciting time, full of travel, weddings, vacation, and various photo shoots mixed in between all of the above. Right now, I am preparing for a trip to Rome, GA this weekend to visit my dear friends Jana, Kane and Mara Kate and also for a family portrait session at Berry College. I am very excited about visiting with them but also to return to Berry to photograph such a beautiful family in a location I love to photograph!

On October 24, I will be photographing Caroline & Dave’s wedding in Macon, GA at the fabulous Hay House. I am looking forward to this wedding not only for the beautiful location, but also because Caroline was one of the first friends I made when I moved to Atlanta five years ago. It is an honor to not only be her photographer, but also her friend.

I am SUPER SUPER excited about their wedding location, The Hay House Two weeks ago, I drove to Macon to scout it out. Here is a shot of the lovely dining room. Amazing!

The purpose of this blog is to share my recent work with you, offer pieces of photography tips (for all levels) or direct you to ones I found helpful, post up coming specials and to keep up with me and all my many adventures!

Photography is a gift the Lord has given me to bless others. I love capturing life as it unfolds before my lens and creating memories that those I serve can enjoy for generations to come. Photography also teaches me to stop and see the beauty that exists all around me, to stand in awe of God both for who he is and for the beautiful world he has created.

I will leave you with an image from the end of photographing the wedding of my dear friends Troy and Amy in San Antonio in 2007. Someone took my camera and Troy and Amy surrounded me! It is an image I will treasure forever.
