Bobbi Jo Brooks Photography bio picture

About Me!

Hi, I'm Bobbi Jo!  Welcome to my blog.  Writing is one of my least favorite things in the world and I speak through photographs, but here are a few things about me:

  1. I am passionate about photography.  Actually, I even say that photography is my love language.  Yes, silly, I know, but it is true! With a camera in my hand, I love to explore the world, capturing life and beauty as they unfold before my lens, which is an extension of my eyes.  Then I greatly enjoy sharing images I capture with others.
  2. I love to travel, exploring each unique place and culture I visit.  I often do not stay put for too long. So, please, if you have an interest in hiring me for your wedding or portrait session and you do not live in Atlanta, do not let that hinder you from considering me.  My travel agent is on speed dial! Check out how I spend my summers in New York City - www.mtwandoe.blogspot.com
  3. With my love for travel, I also enjoy international foods.  I even love to prepare international food for large groups.  Chicken curry is my favorite dish to share with others.  A few weeks ago, I made it for sixty people and it was yummy! If you like international food as well, perhaps we should plan your wedding or portrait session over your favorite international dish!
  4. I am down to earth and approachable.  I also love details and want to make each wedding and portrait session unique, reflecting back your personality, interests, and special moments of life.  I look forward to getting to know each of my clients.  Oftentimes clients become friends, which is a treat!
  5. Photo of me taken by my dear friend Jana Barker!

What is it Wednesday (a bit late)

Finding a good internet connection has been a bit difficult for me here in the BIG apple! This week has been a good wake up call for me. I have been able to take several photographs but it has give me the opportunity to put down my camera and spend time with the mission team but also the folks at Exodus. Tonight, I was reminded of the purpose of our time here, to build relationships with everyone at Exodus. Sometimes I have got lost in focusing on the details of feeding a group of 14 breakfast, lunch and dinner, getting supplies for work projects or just being tired from all the walking so I needed the reminder that relationships are so important. Anyways….moving on to the purpose of this post – What is it Wednesday!

This weeks “What is it Wednesday” is serves a dual purpose, one gives you opportunity to guess at this weeks image but also it is the start of a little photojournalism project I hope to do this summer. I will post more details on this project after the guessing!

Below you will find an image that I thought was oh so interesting! Go a head and leave your thoughts on this photo below! The winner will receive a pack of my greeting cards! The winner will be selected at random. You have until Friday to make your guesses! (Lord willing I will have access to the internet on Friday :-) )

June 9, 2010 - 11:11 pm Becca Gartrell - Oh my goodness... a drag queen with a NYC pigeon eating the leftover birdseed off his head from his race to the car through the shower of sendoff birdseed!!!!

June 10, 2010 - 9:56 am Liz - Bobbi Jo, A familiar figure! This is a man usually seen at Riis Beach, in the Rockaways, with his bird atop his head and miniature poodle (whose fur is dyed to match the man's beard), strolling down the shoreline. I waved to him just last Saturday from the water. I'd call him "Lady Riis", or the "Beach Faerie." Enjoy the city! Liz

June 10, 2010 - 10:49 am Jennifer Folkner - Its an old man wearing a wedding dress that he found walking the streets of New York City. He put some bird seed on his head to attract the pigeon.

June 10, 2010 - 10:54 am Courtney - Wedding crasher? :)

June 10, 2010 - 10:54 am Minette - Isn't this the Naked Cowboys older, classier brother? Love ya and miss ya! Great shot of all that is great in NYC!

June 10, 2010 - 11:04 am Susan Davenport - I noticed there are "no" comments. You can understand why. How in the world can you comment on that picture? Well, looking at it again, guess there really are many comments. For instance, it looks like he is wearing a halter top under his gown. The gown, that's a very interesting gown all covered with artificial flowers and held together at the top with a safety pin. Then you have the pigeon roosting on his head, messing up his veil. I'm guessing he keeps bird seed up there for his feathered friends. This is a man with a great deal of self esteem to go out on the streets of of New York dressed like that. A man who likes to call attention to himself. A man who likes to wear dresses. The picture leaves me wondering what kind of shoes he was wearing. Were they heels perhaps?

June 10, 2010 - 1:13 pm lori warren - HA! Never a dull moment in NYC. I'm with Susan - What kind of shoes did he have on?

June 10, 2010 - 2:21 pm Heather - I think this is just some beggar/street performer.

June 10, 2010 - 3:08 pm Jan - I think the shoes may be combat boots. This is a picture of Thrift Shop shopping taken to the max with a $5 top limit to spend. The bird is just icing on the cake.

June 10, 2010 - 10:38 pm Cathy P - Really wish I could see this in person! Love it!
